Η Coinbase αρνείται να δώσει τα στοιχεία των πελατών της στις φορολογικές αρχές

Η υπηρεσία φορολογικών εσόδων των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών Internal Revenue Service (IRS) απέστειλε αίτημα στο μεγαλύτερο ανταλλακτήριο της χώρας Coinbase για αναλυτική κατάσταση των συναλλαγών όλων των πελατών της από το 2013 μέχρι σήμερα. Όπως αναφέρουν στο αίτημα τους οι φορολογικές αρχές υποπτεύονται ότι αρκετοί πελάτες του ανταλλακτήριου που είναι και πολίτες των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών το χρησιμοποιούν για να φοροδιαφεύγουν.

Το αίτημα προς το ανταλλακτήριο έγινε μετά από την αποκάλυψη τριών περιπτώσεων φοροδιαφυγής με Bitcoin με τις δύο από αυτές να ανήκουν σε πελάτες του συγκεκριμένου ανταλλακτήριου.

“The I.R.S. not only has suspicion that the John Doe class includes U.S. taxpayers who are not complying with the law — it knows that the class in the past included such violators, and very likely includes others,”

Από την μεριά της η Coinbase απέριψε το αίτημα καθώς όπως αναφέρει παραβιάζει τα προσωπικά δεδομένα των 3 εκατομμυρίων πελατών της ενώ προσθέτει ότι θα καταφύγει στο ομοσπονδιακό δικαστήριο.

Our customers may be aware that the U.S. government filed a civil petition yesterday in federal court seeking disclosure of all Coinbase U.S. customers’ records over a three year period. The government has not alleged any wrongdoing on the part of Coinbase and its petition is predicated on sweeping statements that taxpayers may use virtual currency to evade taxes.

Although Coinbase’s general practice is to cooperate with properly targeted law enforcement inquiries, we are extremely concerned with the indiscriminate breadth of the government’s request. Our customers’ privacy rights are important to us and our legal team is in the process of examining the government’s petition. In its current form, we will oppose the government’s petition in court. We will continue to keep our customers informed on developments in this matter.
